How to make the most of the Bank Holidays this Spring

Spring is a magical time in London as the city bursts into bloom. This year, the month of May is particularly special as it offers three bank holidays, providing ample opportunities to explore the city and make the most of the season. With a wealth of attractions, events, and activities to choose from, we thought we’d make things easy for you and detail our favourite ways to enjoy the long weekends.

Celebrate the King's Coronation

The Big Lunch

This year, London will be buzzing with excitement as the nation commemorates the King’s Coronation on the morning of Saturday, 6 May. Here are some of the ways you can join in the celebrations:

Watch it on a big screen: The ceremony is taking place in Westminster Abbey and although it isn’t open to the public, it can be viewed on big screens throughout central London, where we’re expecting an amazing atmosphere.

The Big Lunch: On Sunday, 7 May everyone is encouraged to participate in The Big Lunch, where people are invited to share food and fun together all over the country.

The Big Help Out: A fantastic day of volunteering is scheduled for the bank holiday on Monday, 8 May. It’s supported by some of the UK’s biggest volunteer organisations but there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to join in.

The spring bank holidays 2023 are perfect for wandering through London’s world- famous parks, which come alive with vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and bustling wildlife.

Spring flowers in Kew Gardens: While it’s an incredible place to visit at any time of year, spring is when the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew truly come to life. Here you can enjoy a picnic in a setting that feels like it’s out of a fairy tale.

Rent a pedal boat in Hyde Park: A relaxing pedal boat ride is a great way to take in the magnificent scenery and observe Hyde Park’s wildlife on Serpentine Lake.

Birdwatching at Hampstead Heath: This park is home to a diverse range of bird species, making it a terrific spot for birdwatching enthusiasts. Look out for woodpeckers, warblers, and other migratory birds that return to the area during spring.
